New Group Seeks to Protect California Patients and Consumers’ Healthcare Decisions
Patients Come First will fight against obstacles standing in the way of patient well-being.
SACRAMENTO, CA – A new patient advocacy organization, Patients Come First (PCF), launched with the mission of ensuring patients receive the care and support they need when they need it. Patients Come First will fight against policies that create barriers for patients and cause delays in innovation.
PCF is pleased to prioritize California as one of its first focus states and is looking forward to being the voice of patient advocacy on behalf of its nearly 40 million residents. Access to innovation and opportunities can be even more challenging in a large state with many rural areas. California prides itself on its innovation and equality and we are confident that through this voice of advocacy from Patients Come First, we can help all Californians realize these advancements for themselves and loved ones.
Unfortunately, today’s healthcare system often prioritizes the desires of special interests over ensuring patients can access the advanced and innovative medical care available in our healthcare system. From large insurers taking advantage of programs designed to help patients get access to medicines and care, to government policies that stifle innovation and hope for those with chronic illnesses, the current system simply does not work for patients. For more information on PCF’s priority areas, visit www.patientscomefirst.com.
Without dedicated voices speaking up on behalf of patients and consumers, obstacles will go unchecked and continue to stand in the way. To that end, PCF will maintain a network of executive directors nationwide to advocate for patients at the grassroots level.
PCF will strive to put patients back at the forefront of healthcare through advocacy, science, education, and collaboration.
Julie Gill Shuffield is the Patients Come First California (PCF-CA) Executive Director and can be reached at JShuffield@patientscomefirst.com. As a lifelong Californian, mother and community advocate, Julie is thrilled to be able to advocate on behalf of the underserved in California.
