TAPinto Phillipsburg: April is Parkinson's Awareness Month

By Jeanette Hoffman, Patients Come First New Jersey’s Executive Director

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, a time to recognize the millions of individuals and families living with this devastating disease and to renew our commitment to finding better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

Parkinson’s disease is progressive and relentless. It robs people of their mobility, independence, and quality of life. While advances in medicine have helped manage symptoms, there is still no cure. For patients and their loved ones, that reality underscores the urgent need for continued innovation and research.

Breakthroughs don’t happen by accident. They are the result of sustained investment, scientific risk-taking, and a policy environment that encourages discovery. Unfortunately, that environment is increasingly under threat. Policies such as government-imposed price controls may seem well-intentioned, but they carry serious unintended consequences. By reducing the incentives for innovation and increasing the cost of development, these measures risk slowing the pipeline of new treatments.
