Lancaster Online: An important message for this year’s World Health Day

On April 7, the world will observe World Health Day with the theme “Together for health. Stand with science.”
It’s a timely reminder that scientific progress has saved millions of lives, yet today’s misinformation is making it harder for patients to know whom and what to trust.
Here in Pennsylvania, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania pioneered mRNA technology that led to lifesaving new cancer treatments. In Pittsburgh, Dr. Jonas Salk developed the polio vaccine in the 1950s, virtually eliminating a terrifying disease. These breakthroughs happened because scientists followed evidence and held themselves to the highest standards.
